As the lights of 1999 dimmed, a significant event heralded the dawn of a new era for Greek poultry farming. The group of companies led by I. Philippou, recognizing the need for substantial renewal in the industry, took a landmark step: the acquisition of the renowned poultry company AFOI MIMIKOU S.A. This company, which until then had been managed by the Agricultural Bank, became part of the group through KANAKI S.A., which was soon renamed HELLENIC QUALITY FOODS (HQF), symbolizing the beginning of a united journey toward excellence.
The market analysis during that period revealed three critical points:
In the chicken market, branding played a minimal role.
The majority of the chicken offered was whole, bulk chicken. The distribution of cut-up chicken parts in the market was very limited.
There were no processed chicken products in the refrigerated sections of stores that could offer variety, quality, and convenience to consumers seeking easy, high-quality solutions for their daily meals.
The MIMIKOS chickens, with a combination of foresight and innovation, aimed to transform the market by introducing strategies that addressed these challenges.
The strategy focused on upgrading the product through the introduction of packaged branded products, inaugurating a new era in quality protection and recognition. This was followed by the launch of a complete range of cut-up chickens, allowing consumers to choose exactly the part of the chicken they desired, minimizing waste. Finally, the expansion into processed chicken products brought a variety of options to every Greek table, offering flavors and quality that had previously been unknown in the Greek market.
